Ladies Teams

Game Summaries - November 23rd, 2008

The B team had a slow start to their game against Invivo FC when the ref did not show. The assistant coach from Invivo stepped up to ref the game and deserves our thanks. The B team went down 1-0 within the first 5 minutes with an unfortunate bounce of our own player into the net. A strong and aggressive Invivo kept pushing and were up 3-0 at the half. The B's came out much stronger in the second half with some good chances, but couldn't convert until Kristina Monteleone was taken down in the box and a Penalty was awarded. Chloe Handley netted the PK. The B's couldn't convert any more chances and finished the game 3-1. Player of the game: Theresa Webber.

The A team came out against the Burnaby Canadians strong and were the better team in the first half, unlucky to not be a goal or two up at the half. We started the second half strong, but had a 10 minute lag from which we never quite recovered. The Canadians converted mid way through the 2nd half, capitalizing on a miscue. Bombastic pushed back, but the Canadians scored 2 more from some fast breaks to finish the game 3-0. Player of the game: Trishia McNorton.

Game Summaries - November 16, 2008

Both teams had tough games this weekend as they each went up against the division leaders.

The B team lost 1-0 to the West Coast FC Impact, who came out strong and continued to pressure for most of the game. After a difficult first half which saw the ladies consistently defending, we managed to pull together for the second half and generate a bit more offense. Unfortunately, it was not enough and we did not manage to get an equalizer. Great work by the defensive line, especially Theresa Webber and Kate Daly who filled in at sweeper. Player of the game: Sandra Lindsjo who faced many difficult shots and worked hard to keep the scoreline close.

The A team beat the top placed, very fast, NSGSC Strikers 1-0. It was a very evenly matched, end to end game played mainly in the middle third of the field. 30 minutes into the second half, Freddy Bell placed a gorgeous through ball for Erin Fujibayashi to run on to beat the keeper in the bottom left corner. A solid team game all around, with Tiffaney Kelleman having a great game, despite being sick and knocking heads with the opposition. Player of the game: Ally Thompson, who stepped into the d line when needed then stepped up to mid and made some great plays.

The B team tied the NSGSC Foxes 1 - 1 and deserved a better result as we pretty much dominated from start to finish. Charlotte Kistner scored a great goal in the first half pouncing on a long clear from Fionna Main (who had a great game at sweeper) and beating their keeper low to the right corner. Theresa Webber also had a string game. Cathy Doucet worked tirelessly in central midfield, creating a whole bunch of chances. Unfortunately we couldn't finish in the second half and they managed a tying goal with about 2 minutes left in the game. Player of the game: Lisa Glowacki.
The A team won 2 - 0 over West Coast FC Strikers. A solid win - the result was never really in doubt. Our starting strikers, Kira Stanger and Erin Fujibayashi each scored an early goal, and the whole team played solidly for the rest of the game. Emily Jones had a strong game and Sandra Lindsjo earned her shut out with a couple of good saves in the second half. The game featured sunshine and then a ridiculous downpour for the last 20 minutes. Player of the game: Freddy Bell.

The A team lost 2 - 1 to Squamish Nation who scored in the first 3 minutes of the game. Hayley Watson finished nicely on a Squamish turnover to tie the game at half. Both teams had chances in the second half and Squamish finished one of theirs to win the game. Ally Thompson filled in nicely at right back and had a good game. Player of the game: Tricia McNorton.
The B team lost 2 - 0 to NSGSC Legend. We started with only 10 players and the Legend took a quick 1 - 0 lead before we had a full squad, and made it 2 - 0 before the half. The second half was better, we generated a couple of chances and benefited from a couple of their misses, but it was a tough game without many subs and missing key players. Player of the game: Tanya McLean - great sweeping.

The A's lost 3- 1 to NSGSC Red Sox. Thanks to the B team players who filled in well for 5 missing regulars. Freddy Bell and Tricia McNorton worked tirelessly and led the team to a much better second half but we couldn't overcome the 3-0 first half deficit. Player of the game: Erin Fujibayashi who was dangerous upfront, drawing a penalty and making a great cross on our best chance to get to 3-2. Goal: Ally Thompson (PK).
The B's tied 2 - 2 against North Shore Rage. After a really slow start the team played very well, coming back from 1 down to take 2-1 halftime lead. Cathy Doucet, Tanya McLean and Lindsay Rolfe had excellent games, along with Player of the Game: Kristina Monteleone who scored both goals and came close to getting a 3rd in last couple minutes.
