Bombastic B Game - December 12, 2012

Bombastic B won 3-2 over Van City FC B at Jericho turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:

Bombastic B defeated the previously unbeaten, division leading VanCity B 3-2 on Wednesday night and stretched our unbeaten streak to 7 games. We had a awesome start - I'm not sure if VanCity was underestimating us - but we were all over them for the first 15 minutes and got 2 goals to show for it. After some relentless pressure and many good chances, Katrina scored a cracker of a goal with a great shot from - no kidding - about 35 yards out that went over the stunned keeper's head. Katrina got the second a few minutes later when her corner kick was deflected in the net. After that, we seemed to lose some intensity and VanCity started to pick up their game. They scored off a corner kick (their first after we had maybe 6); a lucky bounce really, but on a ball that we probably should have cleared. 2-1 at the half.

We started the second half well, but again VanCity began to take over and we were defending quite a bit. Lindsay had to be sharp to pounce on a couple of loose balls inside the six yard box - including one play where they hit the post twice. To be honest the whole game was a bit sloppy - some bad passes, bad first touches - by both teams and they tied the game on a bit of sloppy play in our end. It was a nail-biting affair especially because it was a bit of a strange game - neither team seemed in control - and anything could happen. However, Bombastic responded very well to the game being tied and began to take over. I could see players - particularly Laurie, Gagan, Sarah, Jana - really take ownership of the situation and we really started pressing for the winner. After Jenny took a hard hit to win a ball in their half, Kaitlin got the winner in about the 85th minute - making a quick move to fire a low shot that their keeper fumbled. There was quite a bit of time added on, but we did a great job of protecting the lead that we fought hard to get back.

In addition to the stars below I just want to mention the solid play of Barb, Jenny and Amy in the center of midfield, who, for the most part, shut down VanCity's playmakers. Congratulations Bombastic on well deserved win.

Bombastic B Game - November 25, 2012

Bombastic B won 1-0 over Meraloma Menace at Andy Livingstone West.

Game Summary from Hugh:

The Bombastic B Ladies continued their excellent play with a 1-0 win over Meraloma Menace. This was an important game in the standings as Meralomas were 3 points ahead and in second place at the kick-off, and a loss would put Bombastic 6 points behind. We started well and the goal came fairly quickly. A couple of minutes before the goal, Katrina lost a physical battle for the ball against one of the Meraloma defenders - a couple minutes later Katrina showed great determination and won the ball off the same defender, moved towards the top of the 18 yard box and fed Kaitlin who made a great move to cut the ball to her right foot and blast a shot past their keeper to the near post top corner. For the next 15 minutes or so, we continued to play well, making simple effective triangle passes to move down the pitch. Hayley and Maggie had good chances and Gagan almost scored a header off a corner kick. Unfortunately, at the end of the half we lost our shape and Meralomas were able to apply some pressure. Lindsay was excellent in goal.

The second half was better defensively and Meralomas had fewer chances - we protected the lead well. Our counter-attacking is very strong and we had a number of exciting rushes from down the pitch; we just couldn't get the right cross to match up with the right run. We probably should've made it 2-0 before the final whistle but could not get it done. No worries though - a solid win over a very good opponent. Kudos to our defense - we have allowed only 1 goal in the last four games. Bombastic B now unbeaten in 6!

Goals:
Kaitlin - 1

2. Kaitlin - scored a great goal a was threat all game long
3. Lindsay - played hurt and played great - really mobile, made a couple of very solid diving saves

Bombastic B Game - November 17, 2012

Bombastic B won 3-0 over Vancouver Spurs at Van Tech.

Game Summary from Hugh:
The Bombastic B ladies played their best game of the season and extended their unbeaten streak to 5 games (4 wins and a draw) with an impressive 3-0 win over the Vancouver Spurs. The Spurs were the last team to beat us, winning 3-0; so this was an awesome feeling to turn the tables. Again, we started a little slow, the Spurs definitely carried the play for the first 15 minutes or so. We were not playing badly - the Spurs were playing very well - but we had to defend a lot in the early part of the game. We defended well though; their best chance came on a partial breakaway - Jana ran hard to force the shot from outside the box and Gagan made a confident save. It was a physical game. We started to play better when we started playing harder and winning more of the 50/50 balls.Kaitlin scored our first goal with a good low shot about half way through the half. For the last 20 minutes we had a number of chances. We got our second goal when Jana made a great clearing defensive header that started a speedy counterattack. Kaitlin and Katrina moved the ball from one end to the other in about 10 seconds resulting in another good low shot from Kaitlin that was saved - but the rebound fell to Marta who coolly finished. Great goal.

In the second half, the Spurs made a predictable push early on and had a few chances. Gagan was excellent in goal and we were a little lucky when their striker hit a hard shot off the post. After that we took over the game. Katrina got the 3rd goal and we were unlucky not to get a couple more in the last few minutes. Everyone had a good game - it was really hard to pick only 3 stars - more importantly though, this was a real team effort. Well done Bombastic.
