Bombastic B Game - October 21, 2012

Bombastic B won 5-2 over RGSA United at Hugh Boyd Secondary School.

Game Summary from Hugh:

The Bombastic B ladies won their second game in a row with a convincing 5-2 win over Richmond United. We started very strongly and Katrina almost scored with a low hard shot in the first couple minutes. Then she did score. Twice! One after a nice weighted pass from Sarah put her in the clear on the left side of goal; and then a few minutes later on a partial breakaway - one of many times in the first half that Katrina and Kaitlin got on the other side of their defence. Richmond had some fast forwards too, and one of them nicked in between Jana chasing back and Lindsay coming out to win a race and make it 2-1. There was no panic from Bombastic though, and we scored twice more in the half. Kaitlin was super speedy to react and smashed in a loose ball bobbled by their keeper after Ashley's good shot. Jen got our fourth with another good shot. Between those two goals, Lindsay stopped her second penalty of the season.

Richmond came out strong in the second half and carried the play for about 20 minutes and made it 4-2. Our KK Combo scored again though as Kaitlin flicked in Katrina's corner kick for goal number 5.

Congratulations to our scorers who all got their first goals with Bombastic today. Everyone played very well - especially since we played most of the game with a single sub. Jana and Christina had lots to handle with the speedy Richmond forwards, and Sarah made a bunch of great passes to set up a lot of our scoring chances.

Goals:
Katrina - 2
Kaitlin - 2
Jen C. - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Katrina - 2 goals in her first game as a striker!
2. Kaitlin - 2 goals also - she and Katrina had some real chemistry as a strike pair
3. Amy - played all 90 minutes at center mid - her positioning was great - always around the ball - made tons of tackles, intercepted a bunch of passes, and was calm on the ball

Bombastic B Game - October 13, 2012

Bombastic B won 2-1 over Richmond FC Olympics at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:

Bombastic B won their first game of the season, 2-1 over Richmond FC Olympics. Guest manager Paul Lovett said, "The Bs played a really good game yesterday. We kicked off 20 minutes late and after an even first 10 minutes, Bombastic slowly took charge of the game. The opening goal came about 25 minutes in from a Courtney free-kick hit hard into the box. The ball took a couple of deflections and was finally bullied into the goal by Sarah. 1-0 to Bombastic! We continued to dominate possession and the play and had a few more chances at goal, but after about 35 minutes a completely speculative lob from well outside the 18 yard box caught Lindsay off her line and off guard and dropped just under the bar. Their only chance in the first half made it 1-1.

The second half was much of the same with Bombastic having the majority of the possession and scoring chances. Lindsay easily ran down their only two forays into the box while we had a couple of shots just wide of the goal and a couple of runs into their box too. Around the 85 minute mark a solid tackle in defence followed by 4 or 5 short passes put Kaitlin through on a run just wide of the goal. She cut the ball across the goal brilliantly, giving Sarah an easy side-foot tap into the net, her second goal and the team's first win of the season!"

Goals:
Sarah - 2

Three stars of the game:
1. Sarah Chapman
2. Kaitlin Ewonus
3. (tie) Jen Christie and Laurie Citynski

Bombastic B Game - September 22, 2012

Bombastic B lost 3-0 to Westside FC Wild at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
We started very brightly with Hayley, Gagan and Kaitlin creating a number of scoring chances. We had a shot over the bar, a couple of opportunities where we didn't get the shot off, and their keeper made an excellent, and brave, save off of Kaitlin. Westside took over the last 15 minutes of the first half and their center forward score twice - once after a free kick and once after they forced a turnover at our back-line. It was 2-0 at halftime. Unfortunately, we let in another goal early in the second half - on a decent move and better shot - that kind of put the game out of reach. Interestingly, we then started to play better and more creatively, dominating much of the second half and coming ridiculously close to scoring. We hit a post, and Sarah hit a great shot off the crossbar. We were unlucky not to get a goal for our efforts.

Three stars of the game:
1. Christina Mercier: We have strength and depth at center back and Christina was outstanding in this game
2. Kaitlin Ewonus: Again our most dangerous forward - quite unlucky not to have a couple goals on the season already
3. Sarah Chapman: Added a lot to our movement and creativity on offence, especially in the second half

Bombastic B Game - September 30, 2012

Bombastic B lost 3-0 to Vancouver Spurs at Templeton Park South.

Game Summary from Hugh:
The first half of this game, which ended 0-0, was very entertaining. Possibly because of the uneveness of the very bumpy grass, the play was concentrated at the ends of the pitch, lots of long balls and very little controlled play in midfield. There were chances at both ends. I would say that the Spurs keeper had to make more saves, but we had trouble getting a really good shot off. At the other end, Lindsay made one of the saves of the season diving to her right to get a couple fingers on a point blank, well struck shot. A good half for us in a very even game.

We started the second half well but couldn't sustain our good play for the whole 90 minutes. At about 60 minutes, an uncharacteristic turnover in our own end created an outnumbered situation for our back-line and the Spurs pounced on it to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Lindsay kept us in it, making another great save off a penalty. The Spurs were pressing, however, and scored their second on a well executed free kick (both the penalty and the freekick were dubious hand ball calls). We had a few chances also, but most of our shots were either wide, right at the keeper, or blocked by their defenders. The Spurs got a third goal with about 10 minutes left.

Three stars of the game:
1. Lindsay Rolfe - had no chance on any of the goals, stopped a penalty and made that amazing first half save
2. Gagan Toor - really playing well at center mid and upfront - some great passes to set up our first half chances
3. Jenny Franks - welcome back - played her usual active agressive game in midfield
