Bombastic B Game - November 11, 2012

Bombastic B tied 1-1 with Westside FC Wild at Hillcrest (Midlothian)

Game Summary from Hugh:

The game was about to be called off when the referee finally showed up 45 minutes late. Maybe because it is difficult to be focused after such a delay, we started slowly and let Westside take the play to us. In the first 20 minutes we only got around their goal a couple of times while we did a lot of defending. Eventually playing so deep in our end caught up with us, and we turned the ball over and a couple of quick Westside passes resulted in an easy goal for their forward. Bombastic reacted well and the game was more evenly played from that point forward. We are much improved offensively and can now counter attack. One of these counter attacks was down the left wing where Maggie's strong cross went over everyone's head into the right corner. Laurie moved up from right back to be first to the loose ball and put it right back in the goalmouth where after a scramble, Marta poked it in. 1-1. 

The second half had some chances for both teams, but overall it was a bit of a sloppy game. The field was patchy and bumpy; maybe the best chance of the half went to Westside's center forward who appeared to be in for a breakaway but lost her footing. Westside must have had at least 10 corner kicks in the game but were unable to score on any. Late in the second half Westside went down to 10 players and we did have an edge in play after that but couldn't find a second goal.

Three stars of the game:

1. Marta - scored our goal, but more importantly was physical and had her best game of the season

2. Jana - was excellent in the air, making numerous necessary clearing headers and was a rock at the back

3. Lindsay - her experience and concentration was top notch particularly during the many goalmouth scrambles - made great decisions and pounced on many loose balls with sure hands.

Bombastic B Game - November 3, 2012

Bombastic B won 2-0 over MIB Cougars at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:

The Bombastic B ladies won their 3rd game in a row with a solid 2-0 win over MIB Cougars. We started well but had nothing to show for some good play in the first 20 minutes. MIB had a couple of chances in the middle of the first half but really nothing too threatening. Just before half we scored a great goal. Gagan fought really hard for a loose ball against one of their better players, won it, and fed the ball to Maggie who hit a fantastic cross into the box that was headed in by Kaitlin. Very pretty goal, 1-0 at the half. In the second half we carried the play. Barb made a great move at the top of the 18 and hit a hard shot that was deflected over the bar by their very good keeper. A few minutes later Laurie and Sarah combined nicely to send Katrina down the right wing and Barb came from the left to finish off Katrina's great cross.

This was a real team effort. The back four - Laurie, Jana, Christina, and Courtney were all outstanding and Jenny was so valuable in center mid marking their most dangerous and physical player. Brittany was solid in goal and helped out a lot with her chat from from the back.

1. Jenny Franks - we really needed her physical play and she worked tirelessly all game to shut down their best player
2. Laurie Citynski - the whole back four were just great. Laurie was a big part of the second goal and really moved up the pitch well in the second half
3. Katrina Dittmann - was our biggest threat the whole game - great confidence on the ball and some excellent crosses and corners
