Bombastic B Game - January 25, 2012

Bombastic B tied 1-1 against Dunbar Thunder at Jericho turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B remained undefeated but dropped points for the second time this season with a 1-1 draw with the Dunbar Thunder. At the beginning of the game, Dunbar looked sharper and Bombastic a little rusty as we had not played since December. I think that because of our record, teams get very ready to give us a battle, and Dunbar certainly was one of those teams. The first half featured lots of chances at both ends. Ana and Megan hooked up on a bunch of great plays early but couldn’t find the back of the net. Dunbar’s keeper from very early on looked to be their best player. For the most part Bombastic carried the play, but Dunbar was quite speedy and counter attacked very well. They scored on one of these counter attacks that ended with a nice short passing play that freed one of their forwards for a clear shot on net from about 12 yards out that she finished well. Bombastic immediately resolved to fix the situation – from the kickoff we made about 8 consecutive passes and create a great scoring chances. We pressured for the rest of the half: Ana, Gagan, Megan, Tanya, Julie, Jenny, and Marion all had shots on or at net before the half ended 1-0.

In the second half we dominated even more, although Dunbar played more defensively, so we maybe didn’t have quite as many quality chances as we did in the first. We had enough though, and finally Marion poked in a loose ball in a scramble after a great cross into the danger area from Megan. We continued to play hard and had some more great chances, but it just wasn’t our day for finishing. Dunbar did less offensively in the second half, but Lindsay made a great save late in the game to preserve our tie.

Goals:
Marion - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Megan – was super dangerous all game long – at least a half dozen great crosses plus 5 or 6 great corner kicks - played with great confidence in the second half taking on defenders and creating space
2. Julie – we missed you Julie, almost forgot what a speedy, tenacious player you are :) - great effort and competitiveness
3. Marion – got the goal we desperately needed

Honourable mention to Lindsay – who, for once, had lots of shots and saves – especially in the first 15 minutes. Positionally really strong and made that great save at the end.
