Bombastic B Game - January 12, 2013

Bombastic B won 2-0 against Meraloma Menace at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:

The Bombastic B ladies ran their very impressive unbeaten streak to 9 games with a fantastic 2-0 win over the Meraloma Menace. We were missing a whole bunch of key players on Saturday, and we didn't miss a beat! A testament to the quality and depth of the team. We won the game in the first 30 minutes. After a bit of a slow start - Meralomas had most of play for the first 10 minutes or so - we earned a couple of corners and were really unlucky not to score on the goalmouth scrambles that ensued. But the momentum had shifted and Meralomas had trouble getting out of their own half for large parts of the first half. At about 20 minutes, Barb brought down one of their goal kicks nicely and immediately fed Katrina with a beautifully weighted pass; Katrina had a great first touch and finished calmly - low and to the corner. About 10 minutes later we scored on almost a mirror image of the first goal. This time it was Sarah winning a lose ball and feeding Jen also had a perfect first touch and finished beautifully to the top corner. Gagan played goal in the first half and made a couple of solid saves - although we really defended pretty well.

In the second half we had some chances and for the most part defended very well. Meralomas had a couple of very good chances - especially as we began to tire a bit. Sarah made a couple of great defensive plays to prevent what would have been very dangerous shots and Jen was great in goal making 3 or 4 good saves and bravely pouncing on loose balls. The whole team played very well though and it really didn't look like Meralomas had much of a chance to come back in the game.

Goals:
Katrina - 1
Jen C - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Sarah - was a real leader by example on the pitch - both defensively and on offence
2. Jen C - scored a great goal and then put up a wall as second half keeper
3. Barb - controlled the centre mid (with Sarah) and set up the first (winning) goal
