Bombastic B Game - Saturday, November 26, 2011

Bombastic B won 4-0 against Dunbar Thunder at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
The Bombastic B ladies continued their impressive season with a 4 - 0 win over Dunbar Thunder. We started fairly well, with Megan making some great runs down the left wing and getting a number of good crosses into the penalty box. Despite using our wings well, our first two goals came pretty much down the middle - Tanya and Jenny both finishing with good low shots. Dunbar then put one in their own net to make it 3-0 at the half. It could have be more but their keeper made some good saves, to be fir though, Dunbar could have one or two in the first half also. Alexis played keeper this week, she made a couple good saves, and forced a wide shot on a breakaway. The second half was less eventful - the weather again was awful - and with the game decided we took our foot off the gas a bit. Megan made it 4-0 on powerful cross/shot to the back of the net. Coach was impressed how everyone stepped up, how the defenders pushed forward in the second to try a get a goal from the backline, and how each week we have different players competing for the 3 stars.

Goals:
Tanya - 1
Jenny - 1
Dunbar Thunder own goal
Megan - 1

Bombastic B Game - November 12, 2011

Bombastic B won 2-0 against Vancouver Magic at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B started a new winning streak with a 2 - 0 win over Vancouver Magic on a very wet and cold Saturday afternoon. After a good warm-up, we had a fast start and Ana made great passes to Jenny and Tanya who both finished nicely to make 2-0 after about 25 minutes. We had a nice rebound from our disappointing tie of last week - we played some really nice soccer - lots of patience on the ball, some crisp passing and solid defending. Lots of great efforts. Unfortunately, the second half got almost unbearably cold for players, coaches and fans - I can't really imagine more miserable conditions - and the last 20 minutes was played a bit more in scrimmage style as it was clear that opposition was not going to make the game close. Courtney and Jana were both great at the back and just missed out on the stars this week. Thao played some nice football too.

Goals:
Jenny - 1
Tanya - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Ana Maria Rubio Izaza
2. Alexis Lyne

Bombastic B Game - November 5, 2011

Bombastic B tied 0-0 against West Coast FC Banshees at Hillside.

Game Summary from Hugh:
After 25 straight league and cup wins Bombastic B tied 0-0 with the West Coast FC Banshees. Full credit needs to go to both teams. The Banshees played hard and were obviously psyched up to play the top team; Bombastic played very well and for the most part carried the play but were kept off the scoresheet. Missing quite a few regulars, we had 14 players for the day and some injuries early on forced us off our game plan a bit. It was lot of work for Christina, Tanya and Courtney as we played with 3 backs - all three were outstanding. Both teams had goal called back for offside - other than that the Banshees didn't really look like they would score. We had a number of chances - Steph rocketed a long shot off the crossbar and there some goal mouth scrambles where we just couldn't get the bounce we needed. I don't think anyone can be disappointed with the effort. We'll get to work on a new winning streak next week (and we are still undefeated).

Three stars of the game:
1. The back line: Tanya McLean, Christina Mercier, Courtney Colbert
2. Steph Gobeil
3. Kara Archer

Bombastic B Game - October 29, 2011

Bombastic B won 4-0 against Hodder Tugs at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B kept their perfect record with a 4 – 0 win over Hodder Tugs, who, unfortunately, provided little opposition. We played well, but it was hard to play with the passion we had in the previous week as the game is a foregone conclusion after just a few minutes. Still, we worked on a number of things that we need to continue to work on: patience on the ball, dribbling at defenders, switching the field of play. It is obvious that we should be at least one division higher. However, we haven’t secured anything yet, so we need to stay motivated to keep our win streak alive. There are only a couple teams in our section that can give us some trouble. It is important that we stay focussed on our goals and work on the things that we are going to need when we play the better teams.

Goals:
Megan - 1
Steph - 1
Jenny - 1
Ana - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Jenny Franks
2. Courtney Colbert
