Bombastic B Game - June 19, 2012

Bombastic B lost 0-2 to Westside FC Wild at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
The Bombastic B women finished their Division 2 Spring season with a 2-1 loss to Westside. Despite the loss, it was one of our best efforts of the spring. Overall this was a well-played, intense, physical but clean game. Westside is a quality, top of the table, Div 2 team with many ex-Bombastic div 1 players on their roster. The first half favoured Westside, and Bombastic had to defend about a half a dozen corners. We did very well clearing anything that went anywhere near the 6 yard box, but they managed a goal ironically on their only poorly taken corner which was flicked-on just inside the end line to the back post over our keeper and easily knocked in. 1-0 at the half.

The sense at half-time was that they were getting tired, and we really pressed and took over the game for large parts of the second half. Sonia, Jenny and Gagan were a force down the center of the pitch and created a bunch of chances. Jenny scored the tying goal at about 75 minutes on a penalty. Westside, like good teams do, responded and managed a second goal with about 10 minutes left. Bombastic, like good teams do, responded really well: Sonia beat the keeper only to have her shot saved off the goal-line by a Westside defender; Ashley hit a rocket from well outside the 18 that hit the crossbar bounced down hit the line and then bounced out. We were unlucky not to come away with a tie.

Goal:
Jenny - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Sonia
2. Ashley

Bombastic B Game - June 6, 2012

Bombastic B played to a 0-0 draw with Vancouver Breakers at Trillium West turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
We played with 9 out of 20 regulars - due to injury, vacation and other commitments - plus our regular guest Shaz and special guest Sonia. 11 starters, no subs and only 10 players for the second half. The Breakers had only one extra player. Needless to say, there were some tired legs at the end of the game. Bombastic started strong and really carried the play for the first 30 minutes, but we couldn't create a lot of great chances. The highlight of the first half was a spectacular diving fingertip save by Gagan guest starring at keeper. The second half was end to end as both teams tired. We again had trouble creating great chances but I liked a lot of the play and things we were trying. I saw some chemistry developing between Julie and Hayley up front. Thao made a great save by being well positioned at the far post on a defensive corner. Sonia was fantastic.

Three stars of the game:
1. Tanya - it was only after the game that I realized what a great game Tanya had at sweeper - great positioning, ball control, passing and none of the opposition chances had anything to do with the sweeper position
2. Gagan - really solid in net and made that great save
3. Everyone else - a Herculean effort to play 90 minutes of end to end soccer against a fairly physical team - your (non-injured) missing teammates owe you a beer!
