Bombastic B Game - September 16, 2012

Bombastic B lost 0-1 to MIB Cougars at Musqueam turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
It was a hard fought battle by both teams and extremely well played defensively at both ends, with very few scoring chances. Unfortunately, the referee decided to create the only great scoring chance of the game by calling a ridiculous penalty in the Bombastic end with about 15 minutes left. The penalty was converted, and MIB were gifted the win.

In the first half, Lindsay made a couple of good saves but really there was nothing too troubling. At the other end, Hayley and Jen both came close to scoring after Marta made a great run and cross. The second half was more of the same. Although Bombastic started to really take over with about 30 minutes to go, we couldn't find the final pass or the clear shot to get the goal we needed. The penalty came against the run of play. MIB had some good players, and on one of their counter attacks managed to get the ball into the box where after Ashley's clean, straight-on, excellent tackle, their player fell over and a penalty was awarded. After the penalty, Bombastic did well to come back and press for the tying goal. We came close when Katrina's rocket of a shot hit the outside of the goalpost.

Three stars of the game:
1. Gagan Toor: was really a force in this game - winning and then moving the ball really well when playing center mid and challenging their defence when playing up front
2. Christina Mercier - see below
3. Jana Holbrook - (really a tie for 2nd star) Christina and Jana were so solid at the center of defence for the whole 90 minutes and worked so well as a unit that there really was no fear that the MIB forwards would ever get on the other side of our defence - so comforting having them both out on the pitch.

Bombastic B Game - September 8, 2012

Bombastic B tied 1-1 to Van City FC B at Van Tech turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B started off the new winter Div 2 season with a 1-1 tie against Vancity FC B on a very hot Saturday afternoon. Bombastic started strongly, and Kaitlin and Gagan combined well down the left wing resulting in a dangerous cross that Vancity managed to knock into their own net. The next 15 minutes it was all Bombastic, and we were very unlucky not to go 2 goals up. Kaitlin had 2 point blank chances stopped by their excellent goalkeeper and then knocked one just over the bar. Hayley and Marta had chances, and Amy hit a great low left-footed shot that just missed the bottom corner. Unfortunately, we couldn't get that second goal, and Vancity tied the match on a well executed counter-attack finished with a nice shot from outside the box. The second half was similar - with Bombastic carrying the play - although not creating quite as many chances as the first half. Our best chance came when Jana hit a great hard shot from 25 yards out that their keeper blocked and then made an even better save off of Barb's rebound attempt. All in all, a fairly good start for the season, however, with a slightly disappointing result.

Goals:
Van City own goal

Three stars of the game:
1. Kaitlin Ewonus - in her first game with Bombastic was our most dangerous player
2. Barb Jones - another Bombastic debut - played really effectively at Center Mid
3. Lindsay Rolfe - very solid in net, making the saves she needed to make, being vocal and pushing the ball up the field with some excellent kicks
