Bombastic B Game - May 29, 2012

Bombastic B lost 5-2 to Squamish United at Windermere HS.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B lost 5-2 in a hard fought battle against Squamish United. The score was not a fair reflection of the play, as we had some very good ball possession and spent a lot of time in the opposition end. However, Squamish are a physical and skilled team with really no weak players; they proved to be great finishers and our mistakes were punished. We were up 1-0 early on Gagan’s 3rd goal in a row for Bombastic, but soon it was tied on talented move and good shot by a Squamish player. We carried the play for the next 10 minutes or so, however, Squamish counter attacked very well and scored twice to be up 3-1 at the half. We really felt we could come back and there was some good play in the second half. Their keeper was very good; we had some shots right at her and other occasions she came well out of the net to play balls  that we had put over their backline. Squamish scored twice more while we were pressing forward. Jenny added a late penalty.

Goals:
Gagan - 1
Jenny - 1

3 stars of the game:
1. Jenny - great energy and effort the whole game
2. Christina - solid defending, won a lot of loose balls
3. Gagan - won many physical battles and transitioned us from defence to offence

Bombastic B Game - May 23, 2012

Bombastic B lost 3-2 to NSGSC United at Windsor HS.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B lost a heartbreaker to a young, fast NSGSC United 3-2. United carried the play (about 60% to 40%) for most of the game. In the first half, our backline, particularly Christina and Shaz in the middle, played fantastic, and United really had only a couple good scoring chances. We had some chances of our own, and Gagan scored her first Bombastic goal with a great low shot after a long through ball from Hayley. 1-0 Bombastc at half.

Both teams had better chances in the second half, but United continued to have an edge in the play and they tied it on a nice passing play - finished off with a 25 yard shot to the top corner - good goal. Bombastic responded really well, and Gagan struck again after some great footwork to make it 2-1. We then carried the play for the next 10 minutes and maybe were unlucky not go to up by 2. Throughout the game United tried to knock the ball beyond our defense and use their speed to run onto it. We thwarted these attempts for 75 minutes. In the last 15 minutes United really started to push, our backline tired a bit, and their approach started to have more success. They scored 2 late goals to steal the victory.

A disappointing result but really encouraging play against another top Div 2 team. So many great efforts - tough to pick three stars among so many great candidates.

Goals:
Gagan - 2

Three stars of the game:
1. Gagan - two great goals (everyone please note the success she had by keeping her shots low :)
2. Shaz - played the whole 90 minutes at center defense - not her normal position and having played the night before - stopped so many of their attacks - great clearing headers too
3. Thao - played smart, hard, won loose balls, drew fouls - nice game Thao!

Honourable mentions should go to Megan who created lots of our offence, and Joanna who made some great saves.

Bombastic B Game - May 15, 2012

Bombastic B tied 2-2 with Vancouver Spurs at Windermere HS.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B played to a 2 -2 draw with Vancouver Spurs who had won their first 2 games of the Spring season. The Spurs carried the early play, but our defense was fairly sound and there were only only a couple half chances. Marta forced a corner with a relentless forecheck on one of their defenders and then scored from Megan's corner kick. A Spurs player tried to stop the ball with her hands and was given a red card. Spurs did well to come back with only 10 players - scoring one goal on a play we would love a do-over on, and then going ahead on a very nice passing play. 2-1 at half.
Bombastic dominated the second half - especially early - missing 2 glorious chances and hitting the post on another. Julie tied it up on a fantastic one time volley over the keeper from about 20 yards out after a great through ball from Courtney. All in all a well played, quite physical game and a fair result.

Goals:
Marta - 1
Julie - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Christina - first to the ball, physical and fast in the centre of defence
2. Julie - fit and fast - didn't give the opposition any time on the ball - scored a great goal
3. Marta - lots of good running - scored - could have had a couple more with some luck

Bombastic B Game - May 9, 2012

Bombastic B won 5-1 over MIB Cougars at Musqueam turf.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B won their first game in Division 2 on Wednesday night, demolishing MIB Cougars 5-1. On the beautiful new Musqueam turf field Bombastic played a calm ball control game and probably had 65% possession. There was some great one-two passing and we used the width of the field really well. Tanya opened the scoring with a great free kick from 25 yards out, and after that we were on total control. Defensively, our tackling was really strong; MIB had a few skilled players who were constantly thwarted whenever they tried to dribble through our midfield. Megan scored a beautiful goal finishing off a passing play that started with Mo’s short pass in our own half and went through Julie with a little touch pass and Jenny with a 20 yard ball carrying run and pass. We were up 3-0 at the half and 5-0 before MIB added a late goal when we had no subs and a few tired players out there. An awesome effort – everyone played great.

Goals:
Tanya - 1
Julie - 1
Megan - 1
Jenny - 1
Ali - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Julie – incredible game both offensively and defensively
2. Jenny – rock solid tackles, a great goal and 90 minutes of great energy
3. Amy – I think her best game ever – played center midfield – great tackles; worked hard to be on the right side of the ball; some really nice smart passing

Bombastic B Game - May 1, 2012

Bombastic B lost 3-1 to Westside FC Wild at Windermere HS.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Bombastic B played their first game in division two and lost 3 to 1 to the Westside FC Wild. Overall it was a fair result, although with a few breaks the score could've been much closer, and it proved that Bombastic can compete in this division. Westside led 3-0 at half as Bombastic struggled after some time off with a bit of a different lineup and playing on real grass for the first time in a bit. We carried the play in the second half: Hayley hit the post and a few minutes later Jenny scored on a nice pass from Marta (welcome back Marta!). Unfortunately, we couldn't get a second goal to make it close.

Goal:
Jenny - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Tanya - Solid at the sweeper - the speedy Westside forwards had very little open space
2. Hayley - A great debut for Bombastic
3. Christina - had a slow start, then was awesome - see Tanya's note
