Bombastic B Game - June 11, 2013

Bombastic B lost 2-3 to the Vancouver Spurs at Windermere HS.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Once again the B ladies played well and didn't get the result they deserved in a 3-2 defeat to the top-ranked Vancouver Spurs. Particularly in the first half Bombastic carried the play but just couldn't finish. I believe we had 6 corners in the first half. We had a number of solid shots from outside the 18 yard box either just miss or go straight to the keeper. Newcomers, Carol and Shelby created many problems for the Spurs backline with their speed. Their keeper made a great save stopping Shelby from close range. Like the week before, the opposition scored against the run of play - breaking quickly down the right wing with a good through ball to their winger who finished well. Thankfully, Shelby got us back even with about 2 minutes left in the half with a great effort to first win the ball and then fire a great shot from the top of the 18 over the keeper.

The second half was more even, but Bombastic continued to generate chances and corners. However, the Spurs took the lead on an own goal that was a complete fluke - a totally mishit cross hit Tanya's shoulder and bounced in the near corner while Gagan (playing goal) was moving to play the cross at the far corner - nothing anyone could do as the ball painfully rolled into the net. Bombastic came back strong. The Spurs keeper made the save of the game coming out and blocking Katrina's hard low shot with her left hand. As we pushed to get back to even, the Spurs made it 3-1 on a kinda sloppy goal after a cross to the far post. in about the 88th minute, Laurie made a great dribbling run through the midfield and Carol completed the play with a real striker's finish to make it 3-2. Unfortunately there was very little time left to complete the comeback.

Goals:
Shelby - 1
Carol - 1

Three stars of the game: Shelby, Carol, Jana

Bombastic B Game - June 4, 2013

Bombastic B won 2-1 against the Richmond Breakers at Brighouse School.

Game Summary from Hugh:

Bombastic B squeaked out a 2-1 victory over the Richmond Breakers - a score that very much flatters the opposition as Bombastic completely dominated this game.

Due to limited numbers and some travel delays, we started with nine players on the pitch. It didn't seem to matter though as we immediately generated a bunch of scoring chances. In the first half we had 4 shots off either the post or the crossbar (one that went off both) and about 4 or 5 other grade A chances that either just missed or were stopped by their quite capable keeper. Sure enough, Richmond then scored on their one good chance of the half.

We came out firing in the second half, and it was more of the same. It seemed like nothing was going to go in. Finally at about the 65th minute Marta left footed a beauty into the top corner after getting her first shot blocked. Then about 15 minutes later, Amy's nice through pass set up Katrina whose shot hit the far post; Sadaf did a great job of one-timing the rebound in the net. Richmond made a some efforts to tie the game but our defense was pretty solid and Yasmina was really good filling at keeper.

Goals:
Marta - 1
Sadaf - 1

Three stars of the game:

Tanya: for most of the game we essentially played with three at the back and Tanya was great at winning back control and feeding out forwards and mids so we could get back on attack.
Sadaf: particularly in the second half Sadaf made great runs with and without the ball - constantly moving - helping out on defense and scoring a goal.
Maggie: a big part of a lot of our offense from her center-mid position

Bombastic B Game - May 28, 2013

Bombastic B lost 1-2 to the Meraloma Menace at Windermere HS.

Game Summary from Hugh:
The Bombastic B ladies lost 2-1 to Meraloma Menace. We had a slow start and we almost got away with it, but Meralomas scored at about 10 minutes on an obviously offside play. From about the mid-point of the first half we began to take over the game although when halftime arrived we hadn't created that many scoring chances.

That all changed in the second half when we had numerous chances to score. Katrina pounced on a great ball into the box from Ashley and hit great low shot that was so hard their keeper couldn't react; unfortunately, it hit her square in the knee and bounced away from trouble. At about the 75th minute - and totally against the run of play - a Meraloma hit a speculative lob from well out that went over Lindsay's head. We are now down 2-0 on an offside goal and fluke goal. We were not deterred though and Gagan finally got us goal by beautifully one timing Katrina's corner kick low and past their keeper. With 4 minutes left we poured everyone forward and created a few more chances, including Katrina hitting the upright so hard the rebound bounced clear out of the 18 yard box. A frustrating result, but some really encouraging  play and teamwork.

Goals:
Gagan - 1

Three stars of the game:
Katrina (was some part of most of our best chances and really unlucky not to score),
Gagan (scores, again),
Laurie (was all over the pitch - in a good way - in the second half - doing everything she could to get us a result)
