Bombastic B Cup Game - February 12, 2012

Bombastic B lost 1-3 against Coquitlam Thunder at Towncenter - Cunnings.

Game Summary from Hugh:
Well 32 games without a loss is something to be very proud of - an amazing accomplishment for an awesome group of ladies!

Our undefeated streak has come to an end. A young and physical Coquitlam Thunder team beat Bombastic B 3 -1 on Sunday night. After we started strongly and earned a couple of half-chances , the Thunder were awarded a very dubious penalty - that they converted well - on what looked like "ball to hand" from a cross that was headed nowhere. The call seemed completely against what we had been observing in the league this year. Bombastic dug in though, and after Tanya fought hard to win a loose ball at midfield, Jenny finished off Gagan's a beautiful back heal pass with a great low hard shot to the right corner - nice goal. We looked like we were going to be tied at half, but a missed opportunity to clear and the right bounce for the opposition resulted in the go ahead goal late in the half.

In the second half, we had some good periods of play, but ultimately we just couldn't generate enough quality scoring opportunities. As the half wore on we had to push a few players up and take more chances. Playing a little thinner at the back, the Thunder's 3rd goal came on a great shot from their strongest player from just outside the 18 yard box.

A break here and there and the result could've been different, but on the balance I think the better team - on the day - won. Everyone played hard for the whole game and I never saw anything but resolve to get the next goal. In terms of lesson's learned, this game shows how we need to be in Div 2 so we can fight through more games like this and gain the experience necessary to come out on top.

Goals:
Jenny - 1

Three stars of the game:
1. Jenny Franks: Was a real menace for the whole game had a number of crunching, clean, physical tackles (I bet the other team hated her) - played all 90 minutes oh, and scored the goal
2. Christina Mercier: Often, in our easier wins, we take our defense for granted and it is hard for them to shine just by being great defensively. Tina was outstanding Sunday night, quick, decisive, unbeatable and confident.
3. Tanya McLean: showed great leadership on the field playing both forward and on the backline
